Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of our classmate, Gene Cooper.

Gene Edward Cooper, 82, of Mineral Wells, passed away on August 17, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Mineral Wells on September 29, 1941, a son to the late Robert L. and Bertha V. Lemon Cooper.

He was a graduate from Parkersburg High School and then served honorably in the United States Army National Guard. He retired from E. I. Dupont after serving 37 years as a crane operator and mechanic. He is a member of the Grace Gospel Church of Parkersburg and a member of the Parkersburg A.F. and A. M. Lodge 169. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing.

Gene married the love of his life, Pamila "Pam" Fluharty Cooper. A true testament to love, they've celebrated 41 years of marriage together. In addition to his wife, his memory will be cherished by their children, Denise McLear (Rob) of Rock Hill, SC. and Richard Sneigle (Bobbi) of Mineral Wells; his sister, Carol Ann Martin (James); four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 1:00 PM, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at Lambert Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Randy Dornon officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Paul L. Gandee, 86, of Mineral Wells, died Monday, February 19, 2024, at his residence. He was born in Parkersburg, WV a son of the late Coy E, and Ada (Archer) Gandee.

He was a United States Air Force veteran with a rank of Tech Sargent. He retired from the Wood County Sheriff Department with the rank of Captain and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Armstrong) Gandee; four children Bradford Paul Gandee (Kay) of Davisville, Brent Gandee of Mineral Wells, Craig Allen Gandee (Kim) of Hagerstown, MD, and Sandra Michelle Smith (Raymond) of Mineral Wells; three step children John (Margie), Beth, and Michael (Patty) Smith; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; six step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; and a brother Larry Wayne Gandee (Flora).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Omega Maudine Gandee, granddaughter Angela Marie Gandee, and an infant sister Janet Louise Gandee.

Services will be Saturday 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Pastors Mary Beth McCloy and Mark McCloy officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 15 and the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be Friday 5-8 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Beatrice Ann George Parsons, 87, of Mineral Wells passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Belpre Landing Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Belleville, WV, a daughter of the late L. Doral George and Dortha (Tennant) George, and was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

She was a 1954 graduate of Parkersburg High School and retired after 20 years as a cook at Washington Jr. High and Mineral Wells Elementary School. She was an excellent cook, made the best sweet tea, loved her plants and flowers, and cared for a lot of children. She loved being surrounded by her family and friends and would always say, "What's your hurry?" when it was time to leave.

Bea is survived by three daughters, Susan Yeager (Chris) and Cindy Lang (Kevin) of Parkersburg, WV and Sandy Greathouse (Jack) of Fair Play, SC; one son, Bernard Parsons II (Karen) of Charlotte, NC; one son-in-law, John Hannah of Mineral Wells, WV; one sister-in-law, Lillian George of Hurricane, WV; and one brother-in-law, Dick Parsons. She was the proud Nanny of 11 grandchildren: Shauna Jarrett (Aaron), Brian Yeager (Nicole), Justin Hannah (Kayleigh), Jodi Smelser (Derek), Kyle Greathouse (Rachael), Jay Hannah (Amanda), Jimmy Crouch (Amber), Madison Wolf (Brandon), Beau Parsons (Alyssa), Chase Lang, and Paige Lang. She was also the loving Nanny Bea Bea to 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard L. Parsons, whom she married Oct. 8, 1955, in Parkersburg; two daughters, Sharon (Parsons) Hannah and Missy Parsons; five sisters, Freda Townsend, Hyla Hupp, Gladys Stewart, Eleanor Dilly, and infant Betty George; and one brother, Bobby George.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 24th, at 12 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Mineral Wells. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Buckeye Hospice and Belpre Landing staff for the extraordinary care given over the past 15 months. They were there always loving on her when we couldn't be. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Beatrice Ann Parsons to Mt. Pleasant UMC in Mineral Wells.


Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of our classmate, Wayne Bargeloh.

He was born on April 16, 1937, in Mineral Wells, WV, and was the son of the late John "Mason" and Stella Jackson Bargeloh.

Wayne graduated from Parkersburg High School with the Class of 1956 and retired from GE Plastics after 38 years of service as a Tank Farm operator and was known by his co-workers as "Art" He was a 54-year member of The Loyal Order of the Moose, Parkersburg Lodge #1118 and was a 50-year member of The Legion of Moose. He received his Pilgrim Degree in 1987. He was an Honorary Past State President of the WV Moose Association and served on several committees for District 4 of WV Moose Association. He was most proud of managing the WV Pilgrim Memorial Fund for 20 years. He enjoyed farming, gardening and traveling and was a lifetime member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara J. Seebaugh Bargeloh; five children, Mark (Belinda) Bargeloh of Concord, NC, Michael (Gina) Bargeloh of Charleston, SC, Becci Hyde (Mark Orsborn) of Silverthorne, CO, Larry (Betty) Bargeloh of Marietta, OH, Betsy (Chris) Newbanks of Mineral Wells, WV; one brother, Wesley (Sherry) Bargeloh of Parkersburg; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and special friends, Pete Campbell, Connie and Larry Harr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Betty Gall, Marjorie Walter, Bob Bargeloh, and Earl Bargeloh.

Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, WV, with the Pilgrim Memorial Service at 7:30 pm Wednesday and visitation also on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Kathryn Eileen Stanley, 84, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, at her residence.

Kathryn was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on Feb. 8, 1938, the daughter of the late Madeline (Hardesty) and Clyde Mills.

She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, attended Lubeck United Methodist Church, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Kathryn is survived by two daughters, Sheri (David) Cooper, of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, and Jamie (David) Kirk, of Washington, West Virginia; one brother, Lewis Mills, of Washington, West Virginia; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James; and one brother, Kenneth Mills.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of our classmate, Betty Leach. Betty Tuell, of Mineral Wells, WV received her heavenly wings at the age of 92 at Camden Clark Medical Center on Feb. 20, 2022.

Betty was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in Wood County, WV, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Goldie Lyons Leach. Being the first born of four children.

She graduated from Parkersburg High School with the class of 1950.

She married William "Bill" Tuell in February 1952 - almost celebrating their "59th" anniversary before his passing a few days before.

They had two children, Sandy Jones and husband, Ron of Mineral Wells, and Dean Tuell of Mineral Wells. Betty had two grandchildren, Nathan Jones of Mineral Wells and Dena Tuell of Parkersburg. She enjoyed watching their sports and activities in which they were involved. She had one great-grandchild, Charlette Satow of Parkersburg.

Survivors include: sister Margaret Batten of Mineral Wells, sister-in-law Mary Leach of Vienna along with several nieces and nephews including Darrin Batten of Lewis Center, Ohio, and Monica Batten Allen of Davisville, WV. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William "Bill" Tuell; two brothers Eugene Leach and Etsel "Red" Leach, brother-in-law Tom Batten, sister-in-law Phyllis Leach, in-laws Robert and Sarah Giffen Tuell; and other family members and friends.

Betty was employed by Corning Glass briefly until the birth of her daughter and decided on a career as a stay-at-home mom. After her children were raised, she also babysat Darrin & Monica, her sister's children.

She then began her employment as a Wood County School cook serving at Nash, Williamstown, and Roosevelt until she retired in June 1992. Betty was a member of the Big Tygart United Methodist Church in Mineral Wells, having taught the small children's class for years, a member of the United Methodist Women, involved with the Mineral Wells (PMBS) Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, helped her husband with the campground parking at the WV Gospel Singers Association in Mt. Nebo for many years, and attended Wood and Wirt County Senior Citizen Centers.

Earlier she volunteered helping her daughter's Girl Scout troop and helping her son's Boy Scout troop.

Betty loved watching wildlife, the Game Show Network, sport channels, doing word search books, jigsaw puzzles, crochet, and talking with family and friends.

During the winter months, she and Bill lived in Bushnell, FL, for several years and attended various churches while living there with the "snow birds" becoming very good friends with folks from Canada and across the USA.

Visitation will be Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Life of Celebration will be Thursday 1 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg with Reverend Rick DeQuasie officiating.

Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Following the graveside service, all relatives and friends are invited to Big Tygart United Methodist Church for a meal and time of fellowship.

Wanda Lou Brown Melrose, 80, of Mineral Wells, WV, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2021.

She was born on November 1, 1940, in Mineral Wells, WV, and was the daughter of Roy Delbert Brown and Beulah Cooper Brown.

Wanda was a 1958 graduate of Parkersburg High School. She had been employed at Union Trust Bank, First Federal Bank, Parkersburg Memorial Gardens, Walmart, and Flowers Bakery. She also was an Avon representative for many years.

She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, growing flowers and cooking. She always took an active interest in her children's educations and was very involved with the Parent/Teacher Association at Mineral Wells Elementary School.

Wanda is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Mark A. Melrose; daughter, Melody A. Melrose (Jeffrey) Payne and one son, Michael A. Melrose, all of Mineral Wells; sister, Kathryn J. Lemon; special nieces and nephews and two mischievous cats.

She was an active member of Big Tygart Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and in many other capacities.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Tygart/Rockport Cemetery Fund, c/o Mr. John Stephens, 1784 Sycamore Run Road, Mineral Wells, WV 26150 or Parkersburg Humane Society.

To the family of our classmate Dean Thompson.

Herbert Dean Thompson, 90, of Elizabeth, WV, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday October 28th, 2020. He was born May 21, 1930, a son to the late Lester D. Thompson and Vivion Bonnette Mills Thompson. Dean was a carpenter by trade, known for his skilled work and leadership on the many projects he was involved in both independently and through Stephens Construction Company. He also served his country in the US Navy and was a member of the Wirt County Mason Lodge #82, 32nd Degree.

Dean enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting on the farm, antique shopping,and deep sea fishing. He was also an avid traveler, visiting all 50 states and seeing many countries and cultures overseas. Dean was second to none as a storyteller, sharing his traveling stories with anyone who would listen.

Surviving Dean is his wife, Barbara Jo Thompson; sons Michael Thompson (Theresa) and Patrick Thompson (Deborah); grandchildren Dannielle Collins and Jamie Lewis; great grandchildren Katie and Cassie Collins, and Haley Lewis; and brothers Dwayne “Wink” Thompson (Patty Jo) and Dwight Thompson (Kelley). Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his 1st wife Lois Ann Wolf Thompson; sister Mary Lou Evans; brother Darrell Thompson, and sister-in-law Mable Thompson.

As per Dean’s wishes, his remains will be cremated.

Robert C. Duckworth, 76, of Mineral Wells, passed on to his heavenly father on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2019, at Camden Clark Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born September 25, 1943 in Parkersburg, WV, the son of the late Clyde and Virginia O’Dell Duckworth.

He served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps, transferring to the U.S. Air Force for six and a half years. One of his greatest privileges was standing honor guard for President Kennedy. While stationed in France at the NATO headquarters and after its closing being one of the nine left to guard there at the discretion of the Pentagon, his last station was Avano, Italy. Coming home he worked at the F.M.C. Viscose plant and retired from Eramet in 2005.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Linda Giffin Duckworth; sons, Robert C. Duckworth II of Vienna, and George U. Duckworth of Mineral Wells; daughter, Robin Morris (Daniel) of Mineral Wells; two grand-daughters, Brittany Ste Marie (John) of Mineral Wells and Sarah Morris and Fiance (Sidney) of Little Hocking; two sisters, Mary Crum (Ed), Betty Rebrook (Dale); two brothers, Joe Duckworth (Patricia) and John Duckworth (Kristi).

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Crum.

To the family of our classmate Bob Bargeloh.

Robert M. “Bob” Bargeloh, 86, of Parkersburg, WV died Tuesday May 21, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late J. Mason Bargeloh and Stella Ice (Jackson) Bargeloh.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School where he was a member of the Big Red Band, and West Virginia Wesleyan College with a bachelors in Physics and Accounting. He retired from Dupont Washington Works after 35 years of service. He was a life long member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer. He was a long time member of the Parkersburg Moose Lodge # 1118. He loved working to promote the sport of bowling on a National, State and Local level. He was a member of the WV State USBC Bowling Association where he served several years as Association Secretary and later Association Manager; Parkersburg USBC Bowling Association where he served as Association Manager; Parkersburg Mens Bowling Association where over the years held positions of President, Secretary, and Treasurer. He was also a member of WV State USBC Bowling Association Hall of Fame, Parkersburg USBC Association Hall of Fame, and for many years chaired and directed the Bowling Division of the WV State Special Olympics Winter Games.

He is survived by his son, Bryan Bargeloh (Jody), daughter Tonya Bee (Dana), and Nan Knopp (Jay) all of Parkersburg; six grandchildren, Alan Bee, Amber Bee Thomas (Tracey), Andy Bargeloh (Jessica), Ryan Balsley (Jessica), Kyle Balsley (Molly), and Austin Parker; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley Bargeloh (Sherry) and Arthur “Wayne” Bargeloh (Barbara); and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Faye (Dawson) Bargeloh, two sisters, Betty Gall, and Marjorie Walters, and a brother Clifford Earl Bargeloh.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Steve Gedon, Reverend Helen Oates, and Reverend Dr. Gary Shepherd. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

To the family of our classmate Lyle Deem.

Lyle Deem, 86, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away on Sept. 11, 2014 at The Willows Rehabilitation Center.

He was born May 28, 1928, in Parkersburg, the son of the late Emerson McKinley "Burgy" and Lottie May Young Deem.

Lyle retired from A.B. Chance with 45 years of service in 1990. As a young man he attended Big Tygart United Methodist Church and was a member of the Pettyville United Methodist.

He is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Miller Douglass (Kent) of Austin, Tex., Sue Davis (Aaron) of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Melissa Ann Shank of Parkersburg, w.Va.; grandchildren, Gregory Douglass, Alison Hoffmann, Todd Davis, Tim Davis, Rob Shank, Adam Shank, and Sara Shank; great-grandchildren, Hunter Shank, Taylor Graham, Rhylea Graham, Brooke Davis, Jack Hoffmann, Hailey Hoffman, Trevor Douglass, Karly Douglass, Madelynn Shank, Hadley Shank, Ty Davis, Eli Davis and Nicholas Davis; one great-great-granddaughter, Stella Riffle; and a very special companion "Rowdy Dog".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. Deem in 2002; and two sisters, Dorothy Deem and Beatrice Dowler.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home,2333 Pike St., South Parkersburg with Pastor Phillip Prunty officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

William Cecil “Bill” Lowther, 85, of Mineral Wells, went to be with the Lord March 29, 2017 from his residence.

He was born in Mineral Wells September 13, 1931 a son of the late Ira Edwin Lowther and Mary Delphia (Straley) Lowther.

In the course of Bills life, he has faithfully served the Lord as a member and deacon of many Baptist Churches. He retired in 1989 after 37 years of employment as a CSX freight conductor, past Commander and member of Veteran of Foreign War Post #5575, past master of Masonic Lodge #169, and member of South Camp Parkersburg Gideon’s International.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years Ruby G. (Romine) Lowther of Mineral Wells, son Kent Lowther & (Lisa) of Mineral Wells, two granddaughters, Alyssa Lowther and Michaela Lowther, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Eugene Lowther and Cecil Lee Lowther, six sisters and three brothers.

Service will be Monday 1:00 PM at The Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with The Reverend William Kent Lowther and The Reverend Jerry P. Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Jean Juanita Van Sickle, 84, of Vienna, passed away November 30, 2016, at Worthington and Nursing and Rehab Center in Parkersburg.

 

She was born April 5, 1932, in Wood County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Harley and Mary Collins Weigle.

 

Jean was a retired self employed hair dresser and loved painting, antiques and selling antiques. She was a devoted member of the 36th  Street Church of Christ in Vienna, helping in many areas at the church.

 

She is survived by her two daughters, Debra Sampson of Vienna and Lesa Houser of Monroe, N.C.; one brother, James Weigle (Linda Pennybacker) of Vienna; her twin sister, Janice Staniewicz of Orlando, Fla; two sister-in-laws, Vivian Stanley of Grafton, W.Va., and Patricia Weigle; six grandchildren, Starr Deem (Andrea) of Salem, Ore., Amber Martin (Matt) of Reedsville, Ohio, Stephen Chaz Van Sickle of Parkersburg, Fallon Musgrave (David) of Waxhaw, N.C., Tristan Houser of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Cody Van Sickle of Cincinnati, Ohio; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

To the family of our classmate Dorothy Taylor.

Dorothy Jean "Dottie" Cothern, 72, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 2, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at Ohio State University Hospital.

She was born March 14, 1943, in Wood County, W.Va., the youngest daughter of James Walter "Walt" and Clara Ruth Poling Taylor.

Dottie was a 1961 graduate of Parkersburg High School and her last year at Shady Hill School was 1956. She retired from Dudley's Florist after 35 years of service. She was a member of Bethany White Shrine 4 and in 1975 was Worthy High Priestess, was Secretary for 17 years and granted lifetime membership for her service. She was a member of Eastern Star 14 Parkersburg and Big Tygart United Methodist Church.

Dottie was a devoted wife, proud mother and grandmother. She loved flowers and people. She loved to talk and never met a stranger.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bernard F. Cothern; two sons, Michael Cothern (Missy) of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mark Cothern (Beth) of Mineral Wells; one sister, Evelyn Jones (Boyd) of Mineral Wells; one brother, Ray Taylor of Freemont, Ohio; five grandchildren, Hannah Cothern, Haley Cothern, Grayson Enoch, Whitney Cothern and Jack Michael Cothern; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Tom, Paul and her twin brother, Don Taylor; and two sisters, Anna Wright and Shyrlene Heath.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, south Parkersburg, with Pastor Rod Blanchard officiating. Interment will follow Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Mineral Wells. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, and from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home.

To the family of our classmate Fred Lambert.

Frederick Raymond Lambert, 75, of Mineral Wells, passed away at Camden Clark Medical Center on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015.

He was born in Parkersburg, Wood County, W.Va., on Feb. 10, 1940, to the late Frederick William and Lura Beatrice Cain Lambert.

Frederick graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1958 and attended Glenville State College and WVU-P majoring in Biology and Chemistry with a total of over 14 years of school. He retired from E.I. DuPont Washington Works on Feb. 10, 1990, after 27 years of employment; he was owner, until retiring in 2002, of Mountain State Muzzleloading Supplies Inc., which he helped start in the late 1960's and it developed into one of the larger specialty mail order companies in the country.

He was a life member of West Virginia Muzzle Loaders Association, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, and National Rifle Association. Frederick was also a Past Master of Masonic Lodge, Ancient Arabic Order of the Mystic Shrine, Hillbilly Clan 6 Unit of the Shrine, a life member of Ben Bay Grotto, Past President of Kentucky Colonels Club of Ben Bay Grotto, Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, and Honorable Order of the Tennessee Squires. He volunteered with the Shrine Road Runner Team, taking handicapped children to and from the Shrine Hospitals, and as a hunter safety instructor, and swimming instructor.

He enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, swimming, hunting, fishing, target shooting with muzzle loaders, building muzzle loaders and he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frederick is survived by his wife, Sharon D. Whitecotton Lambert; one daughter, Teresa Lambert of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one son, Michael Lambert (Anita) of Marietta; one brother, Lewis W. Lambert of San Antonio, Texas; three grandsons, Alexander, Bradley and Justin Lambert; and five great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kenadee and Tucker Alan Lambert, Izabella and Liam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Lambert.

Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg. Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date at Riverhill Cemetery.

Robert G. Matheny, 96, of Mineral Wells, died June 18, 2015, at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, W.Va.

He was the son of the late James and Anna Mae Steinhoff Matheny.

Preceding him in death was his wife of nearly 50 years, L. Kathleen Matheny; sister, Beulah Caltrider; and brothers, Harry Matheny, Delbert Matheny, Roy Matheny, Billy Matheny and Richard Matheny.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey R. Matheny (Melanie) of Mineral Wells; daughter, Jennifer Criss (Robert) of Mineral Wells; and daughter, Helen Matheny of Charleston and Dr. Ron Stollings. He is also survived by grandson, Kyle Criss (Sarah) of Mineral Wells; granddaughter, Kendra Criss and fiance, Christopher Reed, of Mineral Wells; granddaughter, Alicia Matheny Beeson (Eric) of Greensboro, N.C.; grandson, Robert J. Matheny and fiancee, Cari Sampson, of Mineral Wells; and granddaughter, Madison Matheny of Mineral Wells. He has one great-grandson, Dylan Criss of Mineral Wells. Also, Robert is survived by sisters-in-law, Mrs. Martha Matheny and Mrs. Juanita Gard; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Robert was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and the West Virginia Home Builders Association. He owned and managed black angus and dairy cattle farms. He was an entrepreneur and owned a homebuilding business. In addition, he and his wife owned and operated Matheny's Family Restaurant. Robert enjoyed gardening and hunting, as well as raising belgian and haflinger draft horses and mules.

Betty June Shively, 82, of Parkersburg passed away July 13, 2015 at her residence.

She was born June 30, 1933 in Belleville, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Opal Hartley Rake.

She retired as an Administrative Assistant from Gress Equipment after 27 years of service.

Betty was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels and was a member of Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.

She is survived by two daughters, Michelle Carpenter (Ken) of Ft. Collins, Colo. and Joy Folczyk (Andy) of Sellersburg, Ind.; two sons, Matt Shively (Rosemary) and Jay Shively both of Parkersburg; a sister, Esther Boyd of Parkersburg; a brother, Danny Rake of Mineral Wells; and six grandchildren, David, Nicole, Kenny, Kyle, Megan and Harper.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Shively, Jr.; and several brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Stout Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Paul Russell officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Robert "Bob" Bailey Gilbert, 84, of Slate Creek, W.Va., passed away on June 25, 2014 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Merle and Edna Bailey Gilbert. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from O'Ames Company. He loved farming, cattle, horses and tractors. He was a board member of the Wood County Farm Bureau, co-founder and Alumni of FFA, Blennerhassett Branch and a member of Slate Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arda Watson Gilbert; four daughters, Becky Powell of Slate, Linda Allen (Roger) of Rose Hill, Elizabeth, W.Va., Marilyn Lott (Paul) of Parkersburg, and Kim Cline (Ronnie) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; three sons, Steve Gilbert (Heather), of Larkspur, Colo., Mike Gilbert (Tina) of Crescent City, Fla., and Rex Gilbert of Parkersburg; a sister-in-law, Mary Gilbert Genzery (Gaza) of New York, and her children, Catherine Ann, Roger and Chris; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Gilbert; one sister, Juanita Gilbert, and one granddaughter, Melissa Cline.

Billie Gene Cook, 75, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away on March 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 29, 1938, in Mineral Wells, a son of the late William A. Cook and Freda Belle Lake Cook Slack.

Billie graduated from Parkersburg High School and retired from E. I. DuPont in 1997. For many years, he was a member of First Sams Creek Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and deacon. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Captain James Neal Chapter and was a member of the Color Guard. He loved airplanes and was a pilot. Billie was a very caring and kind, loving person.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Nettie Elaine Modesitt Brown Cook; two sons, Douglas Cook (Brenda) and Robert Cook (Tina), both of Mineral Wells; one daughter, Rhea Hinman (Tommy) of Crisfield, Md.; step-children, Glenn Brown, Larry Brown and Donald Brown (Tamara); grandchildren, Morgan Cook, Kayla Cook, Emily Cook, Ryan Cook, Justin Boswell and Cody Boswell; step-grandchildren, Katherine Brown, Cassandra Brown, Kyle Duley (Heather Radcliff), and their daughter, Kylie Rae Duley and Ashley Hinman and her son, Linwood Lee, Jr.; sisters, Denise Miller (Bob) and Phyllis McCord (Jeff), both of Mineral Wells, and Janice Morehead (Edward) of Byron, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Brown Cook; sister, Lois Shrubb; infant brother, Charles; and infant grandson, Billie Carl Boswell.

Memorial services for Denzil Edwin Riggs, 77, of Elizabeth, W.Va., will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Parkersburg South Kingdom Hall, 1814 Gihon Road, Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.

Mr. Riggs passed away Jan. 18, 2014, at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Born May 9, 1936, in Jackson County, W.Va., he was a lifelong West Virginia resident. He was an active member of Parkersburg South Kingdom Hall, where he served as an Elder for 15 years. He was also involved with the regional building committee for Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. Riggs was a self-employed carpenter for 40 years, and also worked for American Viscoe in Parkersburg, for 19 years.

Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Ruth M. (Weaver); children, Ray (Sheron) Riggs of Jenson Beach, Fla., Jim (Terry) Riggs of Parkersburg, Cindy (David) Wittine of Goodyear, Ariz., and Brenda (Mike) Moses of Willoughby, Ohio; grandchildren, Eric (Sandra) Walls, Bethany (Dan) Cooke, Alyssa Riggs, Zack Moses and Brycelynn Moses; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Cooke; and sisters, Betty Cline of Dalton, Ohio, Bernice Hart of Coolville, Ohio, and Sharon Chambers of Parkersburg. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arliss and Elsie (Heinzman) Riggs.

Donna K. Day, 68, of Vienna, passed away on Nov. 19, 2008, at her residence.

She was born in Parkersburg on March 26, 1940, a daughter of the late George and Naoma Cooper Wolfe.

Donna had worked for J.C. Penney for 17 years and later worked for Wal-Mart. She had been an active member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where she served as co-director of the Altar Guild.

Donna is survived by her husband of 50 years, Frank B. Day Jr.; three children, Kelley Winters and Tom of Chambersburg, Pa., Frank B. Day III and Sandy of Vienna and Jay Day of Parkersburg; five grandchildren, Nikki and Tommy Winters and Kristyn, Frank IV and Kaelyn Day; and three sisters, Shirley Donham, Rose Ginn and Nancy Voelker.

In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Ann Thompson and Sheila Minton.

The funeral service for Donna will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with the Rev. Art Bennett officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Kathryn A. Crum, 70, of Frazier's Bottom, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Hubbard Hospice House West.

Kathryn was a retired Registered Nurse from CAMC Memorial Hospital and taught nursing at the Fayette County School of Nursing. She attended the First Baptist Church in St. Albans, W.Va.

She was a 1995 graduate of WV Tech and a graduate of Camden-Clark School of Nursing. She also attended CAMC Memorial Kanawha Valley School of Nursing and the University of Charleston.

Kathryn loved quilting and knitting. Lots of people have warm feet because of her beautiful quilts she made and gave them as gifts to everyone.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Edward Crum of Frazier's Bottom; son, William H. "Bill" Crum (Debbie) of Lancaster, Ohio; daughter, Kim Crum Modesitt (Rodney) of Cutler, Ohio; brothers, Joe Duckworth of Davisville, W.Va., Robert Duckworth of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and John Duckworth of Mineral Wells; sister, Betty Reebrook and Mary Shriver of Mineral Wells and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Wesley, Sarah, Matthew and Alex.

Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Sixth Avenue and Second Street, St. Albans, with Pastor Richard Mace officiating.

Kelsie Edward Johnson, Jr. went to be with the Lord, March 22, 2007.

He was born September 1, 1930 at Elizabeth, WV and was the son of the late Kelsie Edward Johnson and Alice Mae (Butcher) Johnson.

Kelsie was a member of the Ravenswood Church of Christ and was retired from Kaiser Alumnium Company.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherrie Lee Johnson, Marsha Lynn Johnson, and Debra Jean Johnson and one son Jimmy Johnson. One Brother, David D. Johnson.
