Righteousness! Chapter Fifteen
Jesus had some pretty amazing things to say to His disciples! He had several things to say to them about living by faith. In Matt. 18:18-19, (NIV)
"I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
He also said in Mark 11:22-24,
"Have faith in God! For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says. Therefore I say unto you, What things so ever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them.
Why is it so hard for our carnal minds to believe what Jesus said in these two verses? I believe the reason for this is because we have not been taught what it means to walk by faith! We have been privilege to have lived our lives in these United States of America during the time that the Lord has fulfilled the promises that He made to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the two sons of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh.
Those of you who are senior citizens, like me, can remember when we were growing up there were no McDonald's, as a matter of fact, there were no chain restaurants like, McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger Kings, etc. There were no 7 Eleven stores, and no serve yourself gas stations. As a result of living in an age when all of these things became a household reality, we have come to expect everything to be available immediately. We get aggravated if we have to wait very long in the drive through lane at McDonald's.
We want to attend a church which caters to our needs to be fluffed and buffed with all the programs and activities and the preacher has only thirty minutes to get his point across because we have other things to do and that's long enough for anyone to talk. We have come to expect three songs, a prayer, a thirty minute sermon that doesn't step on our toes, an invitation song, a closing prayer and we are out of there.
This attitude has become prevalent in our prayers to God. If He doesn't give us what we ask for immediately, we conclude that it isn't His will to give it to us! We don't understand how to live our lives by faith. True faith calls the things that are not in the natural world into existance. How many of you have been taught to believe that you have already received the things that you ask God for when you pray? Isn't that exactly what Jesus told his disciples to do in Mark 11:22??
How many times do you get requests to pray for someone and to put someone on your prayer chain over and over again when Jesus said that if any two of you agree as to touching anything you may ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. (Matt. 18:18) 10,000 people praying for something and not believing that their prayers have been answered will just result in nothing happening. However, it takes just two people agreeing and believing when they pray that it will come to pass. Jesus said that we are to believe that we have received the things that we ask His Father for when we pray. If you continue to ask God to do the same thing over and over again, it just means that you have yet to believe that He will do it! When you pray, do you believe that God has given you what you asked Him for? If you do, your faith and trust in what God has said to you is what you live by until the manifestation of what you asked God for comes to pass.
We are all familiar with Heb. 11:1 which says,
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
When does this verse say faith is? NOW! Why is that so important for us to understand? Because God wants you to learn to trust Him! John said in 1 John 5:13-15,
"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name (authority) of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name (authority) of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us: And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him."
If we will learn to believe that Jesus spoke with all the authority of God, then we can believe in what Jesus told us to do will come to pass. This is not rocket science or something hard to understand. Our faith in God is what will bring the results we are asking for come to pass! Do you believe what Jesus said in Matt. 28:18, (NIV)
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
Jesus had the authority of His Father to come to this earth and tell us about eternal life and how to live it. When He said in Mark 11:22 that we are to have faith in God, He was giving us the key to having our prayer request come to pass! So, how do we get this kind of faith? Paul said in Rom. 10:17,
"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
Also Paul said in Rom. 10:8-10,
"The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Your faith is a very powerful thing if you learn to live by it. In Mark 11:22 Jesus prefaced His statement to His disciples by instructing them to have faith in God. The bottom line in this matter is, do you believe what Jesus and God has spoken to you? Mary believe what the angel said to her and responded by saying to the angel, "Be it done unto me, even as you have spoken! However, Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, did not believe the angel when the angel spoke to him and as a result, Zacharias could not talk until day of the naming of his son.
The point that I am making is that we have come to the place where we are no longer putting the Kingdom of God first in our lives and we are allowing other things to be first in our lives. Jesus did not say that we could not have other things in our lives other than the Kingdom of God! He did tell us to seek the Kingdom of God first in our lives.
Allow me to ask you a very thought provoking question! Do you believe that God is in control of everything that is going on in the world today??? Or do you believe that man is in control of everything and God is just sitting by doing nothing about it? What about the USA? Do you believe that the USA has become the greatest nation ever to be on this earth because of what, we, the people of the USA have accomplish? Or do you believe that God is in control of this earth and is working out everything according to His master plan for mankind?
We constantly say, "God bless America!" and very seldom do you hear someone say, "May God continue to bless America!" We are the greatest single nation that has ever been on the face of this earth! Is this just a coincidence or has it just been the plan of God manifested?
God, through Jacob, declared the promise to Ephraim and Manasseh that one of them would become a league of nations and the other a great nation. This has all came to pass to Great Britain and the USA, just as God said it would. We have had the privilege of living in these United States of America as this prophecy came to pass.
How many of us are declaring with our mouths that this nation will continue to stand, irregardless of what is happening to our economy today! How many of us are praying and believing that God will give those who are in control of our government His wisdom to rule this great nation? When you speak of this nation and what is happening today, do you declare with your mouth the word of God or do you curse our government and those in office? What you say with your mouth is very important! Are you saying faith filled words or are you speaking condemnation to our government and our leaders?
This is the day that we, Christians, need to wake up and begin to declare what the word of God says and what we want to happen in this God given land that we live in! Most of us have been taught in the past that we don't have the authority to prophesy today! If we don't have the authority to prophesy today, then why did Jesus tell us to speak to the mountain in Mark 11:22-24 ?
We are sons of God and Jesus gave us the authority to rule in this life. Jesus said in Matt. 28:18-20,
" Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
He is the King of Kings, isn't He? Rev. 17:14 says,
"These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful."
Also in Rev. 1:5-6,
"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever!"
He has made us to be Kings and Priests to His Father! Don't you think that it is about time that we start acting like Kings and Priest and start declaring what Jesus said about us? A king must guard what he says with his mouth when sitting on his throne because what he says becomes the law of the land. Are you aware that we have been given the privilege of sitting on God's throne at his right hand in Christ? Paul said in Eph. 1:17-23, (NIV)
" I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way."
Jesus gave us the authority to go into all the world and tell the people the good news of the Gospel. He said in Mark 16:17-18,
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name (or by my authority) shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
Jesus said that these signs would follow them that believe! Have you laid your hands on anyone lately that was sick? You might say, "Well, I don't believe that was meant for us to do today!" Did Jesus put a time limit on the instructions He gave to His disciples? The reason that so many of our request of God are not given to us is because we don't believe what Jesus has said in Mark 11:22.
He said that if anyone shall say unto this mountain, "Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he says."
You say, Well, yes but.........." Look, I did not say this and it is not something I came up with! Jesus said these things! Why is it so hard for our carnal minds to believe what Jesus said? The answer is very simple! Paul said in Rom. 8:6-9,
"For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."
Our carnal minds must be renewed and filled with the word of God! This is the way we can be transformed and become what God intended us to be. Paul instructed us in Rom. 12:2,
"Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
This is not something that we do once and then forget about it. It's a lifetime process and every time the Lord reveals something to us we have to update our minds.
