Norman Strate
He has been
involved in several successful turnaround situations and has served as Chief
Executive Officer and prinicpal shareholder of J.F. Jelenko & Co., which
has been sold to Heraeus Incorporated, the US subsidiary of Heraeus Holdings,
GmbH. Among the companies
with whom Mr. Strate worked are RCA, Hertz (primarily in Europe), Showtime (a
venture of Viacom and Teleprompter), and Talon zipper. He was a member of the buyout group , which
acquired Talon from Textron in 1981 and was instrumental in implementing a
significant restructuring and high successful turnaround there. Mr. Strate
graduated from Lehigh University in 1962 with a B.S. in degree in
accounting. In 1965 he received an
L.L.B. from the Unversity of Pennsylvania School of Law and is a member of the
bar in Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. He also served as an officer in the U.S. Army. He served as a
member of the Board of Directors of the National Dentex Corporation (nasdq) and
was Vice Chairman of the Board of Fellows at the Harvard School of Dental
Medicine. He has served on the board of
directors for ten years of the Gies Foundation of the American Dental Education
Association. Mr. Strate was a trustee
of the board of Cushing Acadmey, Ashburnham, MA, a secondary boarding
school. Currently he serves on the
board of the Church Farm School, Exton, PA a secondary school for boys with
single parents. Mr. Strate is involved
with Classics for Kids Foundation which was created by Dr Condoleezza Rice and
Michael Reynolds. He has served on
the Lehigh University Alumni board and is a frequent speaker at various
professional and business forums. Mr
Strate served as co-chair of the Kroc committee for The Salvation Army, Mass
Div. for the rehabilitation of the worst section of the metro Boston. Mr. Strate is Chairman and founder of
Trenergi a high temp PEM fuel cell with combined heat and power. He teaches at the Lee Iacocca Intitute of
Lehigh University. He is a graduate of
seminar 21 of the War College of Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania.
Obituary, May 23, 2017 Norman F. Strate, 76
years old of Southborough Mass., formerly of Parkersburg WV passed away on May
23, 2017. His wife Ann L,(Latimer) Strate predeceased him in 2010. Normans life
was one of service to others and his country.
He is survived by
his three daughters, Margaret Strate of Glendale, Arizona, Mary Strate-Friesen
of Montreal, Canada, and Amanda Csank of Shrewsbury, Mass., and nine
grandchildren.
Norman graduated
from Lehigh University where he was still an active alumni. He received an LLB
from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. Additionally, he served as
an officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He served on many
charitable boards such as the Salvation Armys Kroc Center in Boston, MA and
Church Farm School in Exton, PA. He also graduated from the National Security
Program at the War College, Carlisle Barracks. His professional life was full
of multiple new business ventures and start ups.
Services will be held at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 27 Main Street, Southborough, Mass., 01772 on June 4, 2017 at 2pm with a reception following at the parish hall.
